Built March 1929, for the General American Transporation Company
Carried fruit and vegtables all over North America
Has 4 inches of insulation on each side and 4 1/2 inches on the floor
The insulation is matted horsehair
Bunkers on each end of the car held 10,000 lbs of ice
In transit belt driven fans circulated the air, in yards a electric motor could be attached as to move air while the car was not moving
You can see the belt under tha car, from the truck axle to the fan
When the car had to be warmed to prevent the cargo from cold, portable heaters replace the ice bunkers in the ends of the car
Donated to MOT in 1959 by the American Refrigerator Transit Company
